Understand the Configuration

How It Works

A thermal screw conveyor moves bulk material continuously while a heating or cooling medium circulates through a jacket surrounding the conveying section. Heat is transferred through the housing wall, keeping the thermal medium physically separated from the conveyed material. The conveyor is engineered around both conveying and thermal requirements. Material throughput, inlet and target outlet temperature, specific heat, available thermal medium, residence time, and required heat-transfer area are considered together when determining conveyor size, jacket configuration, screw speed, and conveying length.
01

Indirect Heat Transfer

Heat passes through the jacketed housing wall while the thermal medium remains separated from the conveyed material.

02

Continuous Thermal Conditioning

Material is conveyed through the heated or cooled section while temperature adjustment takes place continuously along the conveying path.

03

Engineered Thermal Duty

Heat-transfer area and residence time are selected around throughput, required temperature change, and available thermal-medium conditions.

Choose Around Your Application

Your Options

These are the main configuration decisions. Material, capacity, layout and operating conditions determine which combination fits the application.

01

Thermal Duty

Thermal duty is defined by the required product temperature change, material throughput, and the heating or cooling utility available at the plant.

Compare Choices
Heating

Heat is transferred into the material through the jacket using steam, hot water, thermal oil, or another suitable heating medium.

Cooling

Heat is removed from the material through the jacket using cooling water, chilled water, or another suitable cooling medium.

02

Jacketed Housing

Housing configuration is selected according to material behavior, containment requirements, maintenance access, installation layout, and required heat-transfer area.

Compare Choices
Jacketed U-Trough

A thermal jacket surrounds the trough to provide indirect heating or cooling while retaining top access for inspection and maintenance.

Jacketed Tubular Housing

A jacketed tubular housing provides an enclosed conveying path with indirect heating or cooling around the process section.

03

Screw Speed & Residence Time

Screw speed is selected together with throughput to provide the residence time required for the specified thermal duty.

Compare Choices
Fixed-Speed Operation

Suitable where feed rate and thermal conditions remain stable within a defined operating duty.

Variable-Speed Operation

Variable-speed control allows screw speed to be adjusted within the engineered operating range as throughput or thermal conditions change.

04

Construction Material

Construction material is selected according to material compatibility, operating temperature, cleaning requirements, and service environment.

Compare Choices
Stainless Steel

Selected where corrosion resistance, cleanability, or product-contact requirements favor stainless-steel construction.

Carbon Steel

Selected for general industrial duties where stainless-steel construction is not required by material compatibility or process conditions.
